You weren’t expecting to see a post about Kentucky on a website about a family who’ve lived in Canada for the past two hundred years. But we do indeed have ties to that part of the world. Ruth, my lovely wife of fifty-one years was born on the banks of the Tug River in Goody, Kentucky.

Twelve years ago, in the summer of 2014, Ruth and I spent several sunny weeks roaming and documenting six of the cemeteries in the area where she grew up.

For some of those cemeteries, we had the benefit of extensive work that Peggy Tussey, Lorna Justice, and Aggie Hager had done in 1989, and that an esteemed local historian named Ron Blackburn had made available online.

The outcome was six worksheets, one for each of the cemeteries, listing the graves we were able to find in 2014 or that the folks who had preceded us had found in 1989.

Now, twelve years later, it seems like a good idea to make those worksheets available online, in searchable PDF files, so that they’ll turn up whenever someone searches one of the names they contain.

The worksheet for the Dotson Cemetery includes thirteen graves at the upper edge of the hilside that are now considered to be a separate cemetery known as the Bobby & Cora McCoy Memorial Cemetery.
